Having been a member of an international non-profit organization that travels and provides lifeguard training around the world, it is important that I carry the most efficient and effective medical/trauma products.
Previously, I only traveled with a pocket mask. Now, with the Micro BVM, I can provide a higher concentration of oxygen to patients than I could with a simple pocket mask. This is extremely important when treating a non-fatal drowning victim/patient.
Because my humanitarian missions consist of travelling, size is an important factor in the gear I bring. The Micro BVM not only has a smaller footprint than the typical BVM, but also has a sturdy case to protect it. This is important on the sand and in the airports where bags are not handled gently.
Another benefit of the Micro BVM is that it better withstands pressure changes associated with air travel than a CPR mask or standard BVM. CPR masks and standard BVMs have “balloon-type” mask seals that will expand/contract with changes in ambient pressure. This causes the material to stretch which thereby effects the seal on a patient’s face on ground level. The Micro BVM avoids this problem by not having an air-filled mask. As you can see, a standard BVM mask deflates over time, leading to a poorer facial seal.
As with all medical equipment, know how to use it! When someone is hypoxic, seconds matter and one must know how to open the Micro BVM fast.
In summary, I love the Micro BVM and recommend it to everyone in the first responder realm. Its higher price is worth it just in its size and durability. This should be required for all medical personnel who travel on aircraft with medical equipment or practice at high altitudes.
Thank you for making a great product,
A grateful customer
